If you want to see what Stephen Colbert is like when he’s starstruck (or as he puts it here, “comedystruckâ€), look no further than this clip from Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara’s visit to last night’s Late Show. Like Levy and O’Hara, Colbert spent a lot of time learning and performing improv at Second City, so the three chat about some of the differences between how the Toronto and Chicago improvisers approach scenes. “Well the thing was, you guys would do scenes that were kind of, uh…longer,†Levy explains. “Back then they were doing nice and long scenes – relationship scenes, character arcs, beautiful scenes – and I thought ‘Well, how can they do a scene this long with very few laughs and yet the scene was working?’ … If we went 15 seconds without a laugh, something was wrong.†Check out another clip from the interview below:
