Another anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, another year of J.K. Rowling clearing her guilty conscience in the name of fan service. Last year, she publicly grovelled at your Twitter feet for killing poor Fred Weasley on that fateful day. Today, she’s apologizing for orphaning yet another Boy Who Lived. Remus Lupin fought the good fight until he could fight no more (not even as a werewolf, womp), and for that, Rowling is very sorry. She deeply feels your pain: “The only time my editor ever saw me cry was over the fate of Teddy,†she tweeted this morning, referencing Lupin’s surviving son, who you just know will get a spinoff series of his own in a decade. (Curiously, she isn’t also apologizing for killing Tonks with Lupin, but we’re sure she’s just as gutted.) And if it makes you hate her less, Rowling says she didn’t even put Lupin on her kill list until Order of the Phoenix. Oh, and also: Blame Arthur Weasley.
