Here’s a clip from last night’s Last Week Tonight, where John Oliver takes a closer look at the very complex and convoluted rules for different states’ presidential primaries and caucuses and why it’ll continue being an issue every primary season unless we decide to do something about it after the next president is chosen. “If you play by a system of complex, opaque rules that almost nobody understands and that you could use to your advantage, even if you don’t, you are going to alienate voters,†Oliver says. “This is a system which clearly needs wholesale reform. The problem is, once the system produces a winner, the conversation tends to just move on.†Oliver proposes we all agree to demand primary process reform on a very appropriate date next year – February 2nd, or Groundhog Day.
