If you like Orange Is the New Black but wish it took place in the 1980s and could possibly double as a Jazzercise commercial, Netflix has a show coming for you. OITNB creator Jenji Kohan is executive-producing Netflix’s G.L.O.W., a scripted comedy based on the eponymous 1980s women’s wrestling league. The league — an acronym for “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” — was founded in 1986 and the subject of a self-titled TV series from 1986 to 1990. Netflix’s series is inspired by the actresses behind the league and stars “an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.” Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie) created the series and will serve as showrunners. In case you wanted more “big hair and body slams,” Netflix is also acquiring a 2011 documentary on the league.
