From the Manolos to the West Village address, everything about Krystal Bick exudes pure New York City.
From the Manolos to the West Village address, everything about Krystal Bick exudes pure New York City. Surprisingly, the newly-minted 30-year-old is actually a West Coast transplant. And, the more you talk to Bick, the more you realize it’s not even that simple: She’s an avid traveler, perhaps even a bit of a global citizen. Fittingly, her blog, This Time Tomorrow, is devoted to travel, culture, beauty, and style.
“I started This Time Tomorrow as a creative outlet in college and grew to love cultivating it as my little corner of the internet,” explains Bick.
Seven years post-launch, she’s amassed a dedicated army of readers that flock to her “corner” daily for tips, tricks, and inspiration. And, at the foundation of her flawless look and discerning style is her skin-care routine.
For Bick, it’s second-nature — a critical part of overall well-being. “When it comes to looking and feeling my best, it really boils down to my self-care routine: How much I'm exercising, how much water I'm drinking, how much sleep I'm getting each night, and how hydrated and moisturized my skin is,” she reveals.
With this holistic outlook on self-care, it only makes sense that the tastemaker has curated a lineup of effective skin-care products full of natural ingredients. We spent the day with Bick (and her rotund corgi, Elvis) to get a feel for her fashion-filled day-to-day, and the skin-care routine that powers her through.
Morning: Bick starts the day with a dose of vitamins … via skin-care. After she washes her face, she applies Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster. “It's like an extra glass of OJ for the morning!” says Bick. In addition to the five-source vitamin C complex, the antioxidant-rich serum is enhanced with green tea, orange, grapefruit, and rose hips seed extract for a soothing — not to mention amazing-smelling — experience.
Drunk Elephant B Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel comes next in her routine. Vitamin B5 and pineapple ceramide join forces to reverse signs of aging. “This particular hydration gel is my new favorite — not just for my morning ritual, but also after long flights,” she says. “It's perfectly lightweight but still delivers a good pick-me-up punch.”
With healthy skin, and a fresh outlook to match, Bick is ready to take on the day.
Noon: Bick only recently made the jump to full-time blogger — she spent the last five years at Google. “Since switching from a pretty corporate environment to a freelance lifestyle, I've really embraced the freedom to work from wherever I want,” says Bick. “Depending on my schedule for the day, I either work from home with Elvis or will hop over to one of the many cute West Village cafes in the neighborhood.”
Café Minerva is today’s charming hangout. “If I can manage it, I'll spend all day here, holed up at one of their window-front spots, laptop in tow, and hammer out my to-do list,” says Bick.
Night: After a successful day of writing and planning, Bick is ready to relax, although admittedly, disconnecting can be tough.
“The tricky thing I've realized while working for myself is that it's hard to turn it off sometimes,” says Bick. “I keep a journal near my bed that I only reach for in the evenings to jot down story ideas, location inspiration for upcoming shoots, or sometimes, I'll start a little short fiction story. It's a great writing exercise that forces me to depart from a laptop and Wi-Fi and just be alone with my thoughts.”
Evening is also the time for indulgence. While the swirled black-and-white formula may look like a sweet treat, Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment is more a delicacy for the skin. Before bedtime, Bick applies the mask to her face, blending it together for even distribution. As she rinses it off, the effects are immediate: Black charcoal removes impurities, while white charcoal serves as a balancing agent.
“I find skin-care to be so fascinating — it really is tied to your overall well-being,” says Bick. With this day’s activities washed away, she’s ready to do it all again in the morning.
