Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.
This week, Second City sent us a clip from the 2010 revue Spoiler Alert: Everybody Dies, which featured ensemble performers Alison Bills, Shelly Gossman, Tim Mason, Sam Richardson, Tim Robinson, and Emily Wilson. In the above scene, Bills and Richardson play a Polish woman and a Ghanaian man running side-by-side booths at the annual Taste of Chicago food festival, and even though they come from completely different cultures, they’re united by two things: confusion about American food and culture and an undeniable desire to try KFC’s Double Down. “I find myself becoming more American every day. But not in a good way,†Richardson says. “I want to kick my feet up, eat shitty food, and wave a flag.†Check out another clip of Richardson performing at The Second City in 2011 here.
