As the title Blood Father suggests, Mel Gibson plays an ex-con protecting his estranged daughter (Erin Moriarty) who’s experiencing the tiny inconvenience of being hunted down by a drug cartel. But don’t worry, he’s fully prepared to salvage the terrifying situation by showing off a particular set of skills, skills he has acquired over a very long career, to keep his daughter out of harm’s way. He’ll make sure she’s the last streak of sunshine those cartel members ever see, buddy boys! (William H. Macy’s “redneck” character is along for the ride, too.) Directed by Jean-François Richet, the action-thriller will roll into theaters on August 12.
