You all know the story: The year was 2007, Britney Spears was a shell of herself, and yet, someone decided she should open the VMAs. The performance was critically panned at the time and is regarded to this day as one of the worst performances in VMA history. But rather than have that lethargic version of Brit hobbling around the stage be her lasting VMA memory, she’ll be back this year for a comeback. Britney announced in a video that she’s performing at this year’s VMAs for the first time in nine years. The clip features homages to all of Brit’s iconic performances: The boa constrictor! The wedding outfit! The red latex! It’s the VMAs, bitch.
