Selena Gomez looks to be putting the international leg of her Revival Tour on hold to deal with complications related to her autoimmune disease, lupus. The singer told People magazine in a statement, “As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways.†She continued, “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.†Gomez revealed her condition last year in an attempt to raise awareness about the disease and squash rumors that she was being treated for substance abuse when she was, in fact, receiving chemotherapy treatments. A “source†close to Gomez reportedly even made it clear to People that this hiatus is “absolutely not related to alcohol or substance abuse.â€
The announcement comes about a month after Gomez posted a note to Instagram in which she expressed feeling “extremely inauthentic†about a show she had done in Indonesia. The post, which has since been deleted, also said, “I’m always true to my word, I’ve shown who I am but I need to rethink some areas of my life creatively and personally.†The source who spoke to People said Gomez will be clearing her calendar for the next year to address these health concerns, and it is unknown how her remaining tour dates, which she has scheduled through 2016, will be handled. Gomez concluded her official statement by saying, “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.â€
