Coming fresh out of the Toronto International Film Festival is the first trailer for The Promise, one of Vulture’s most anticipated movies at the event, and a big, exciting piece of Oscar bait. And speaking of Oscars, there’s one already here! Oscar Isaac stars as an Armenian medical student in Constantinople (now Istanbul) who gets wrapped up in a love triangle with an American journalist (Christian Bale) and an Armenian artist (Charlotte Le Bon) as the country is on the verge of being consumed by war. Terry George directed the sweeping portrait of romance set amid the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the Armenian genocide that came with it.
