If you were to imagine a movie about an everyday Joe who lives out his greatest fantasies through an elite assassin alter ego that he writes about in Tom Clancy–style novels, could that average Joe be played by anyone other than Kevin James? Surely not, which is probably why Netflix cast James to play just such a character in True Memoirs of an International Assassin, an action-comedy coming fresh out of their booming original-programming department. James is Sam Larson, who wishes he was actually a hit man going by the name of Ghost, but when one of Larson’s hobby novels is published and marketed as true confessions of an actual paid killer, he gets kidnapped and roped into an international assassination plot. It’s like Mission Impossible: Paul Blart.
