In Ordinary World, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong musically reunited with Fred Armisen — a talented drummer in his own right — after more than 20 years since their first show together. (Believe it or not, the two performed alongside each other in Wisconsin in 1991.)
The film tells the story of Perry, played by Armstrong, who traded in a punk-rock career for residential fatherhood and is struggling to adjust to, well, an ordinary world. Armisen stars as the drummer in Perry’s former band who prods Perry for having abandoned them.
We talked with Armstrong and director Lee Kirk about Armstrong’s past with Armisen and their choice to use live music in the film.
