Seth Meyers to President-Elect Trump: ‘We Here at ‘Late Night’ Will Be Watching You’

Late Night returned last night with its first post-election episode, and Seth Meyers had some serious but optimistic words for families out there, particularly for parents with daughters. “A lot of them, like me, probably thought Hillary would be our first woman president, but she won’t be. But that does mean that someone’s daughter is out there right now who will one day have that title,� he says. “And, good news to our first woman president, whoever you are, wherever you are; you may have been rooting for Hillary, but now you can still be the first female president. And first is so much better than second.� He also took an optimistic, hopeful approach to the reality of a Trump presidency but closed out the segment with a promise to Trump and to viewers going forward: “Donald Trump made a lot of promises as to what he’s going to do in the next four years, and now we get to see if he can fulfill them. And so I’d just like to make one promise to him: We here at Late Night will be watching you.�
