Because nothing good can come from 2016, Chairlift have announced they are breaking up. In a brief note to fans, Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly say they’re going their separate ways as of next spring, when they’ll play their final shows as a duo. “The time has come to take the next step toward where our passion is pulling us,†they explained. The Brooklyn staple formed in 2005 and has released three beloved albums, their last being this year’s slept-on Moth, which included the lush song “Crying in Public,†apparently so we’d all be well practiced for the inevitable waterworks triggered by this news. Polachek says she’ll continue her solo career, which began in 2014 with her debut album under the moniker Ramona Lisa, but really took off when she co-wrote Beyoncé’s “No Angel.†Wimberly will now be a full-time producer and, according to the two of them, will likely keep on working with Caroline.
