David Ayer Directing Female DC Spinoff Gotham City Sirens, Starring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman

Hiya, puddin’!

Even before Suicide Squad made its dismally reviewed August debut, Warner Bros. had clearly signaled that it saw the DC Comics–based flick as a launching pad for the psychotic and ponytailed Clown Princess of Crime, Harley Quinn. As early as May, there were reports that the studio was eyeing a Harley-centric spinoff, which would reportedly also feature other DC characters of the female variety. We finally have details on that front: According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be called Gotham City Sirens and will feature H.Q. working in coalition with fellow perennial Batman foes Poison Ivy and Catwoman. It shares a title with a well-received comics series that ran a few years back, which followed the adventures of that motley and antiheroic trio. The most surprising aspect of today’s news is the fact that Sirens will be directed by Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer. Given that Squad was something of a critical disaster, one would think Warner Bros. might have gone in a different direction, but hey, as Harley can tell you, everyone deserves a second chance.
