Busy horror master Stephen King is about to place another, rather interesting name on his collaboration wall (which, one assumes, is scrawled backwards in red lipstick on a wall opposite a mirror). As Variety is reporting, tonight J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot company tweeted a photo in Abrams’s now-recognizable scrawl (and on some very directorial letterhead), pointing fans to a particular YouTube URL with a cryptic clue:
Those who followed the trail found themselves watching a teaser for a forthcoming Hulu series called Castle Rock which, as Variety points out, is the name of a fictional Maine town in which King has set many of his most famous works, including Cujo and The Body, the latter of which was adapted into the film Stand by Me. The teaser itself seems to imply a connection between those novels, particularly their characters, that goes beyond the setting itself: a series of connections that looks like veins in the human body eventually render as lines on a map of King’s favorite state. Like so many Abrams projects, and a good deal of King’s, this one’s an intriguing mystery at the outset. As Abrams asks in his tweet, “What is the hoax in the forest?†Only time (and Abrams/King) will tell.
