record breakers

Adele Now Holds the Record for Longest Charting Woman

In a year already filled with Adele moments, here’s one more to add to the broken Grammy pile: Billboard reports that Adele’s sophomore album 21 has now broken the record for longest charting album by a woman on the Billboard 200. (It’s also, we hear, a great birthday gift.) To give you a sense of how massive and rare that is, consider which album your favorite renegade tweeter dethroned: Carole King’s Tapestry, which entered the chart in 1971, stayed for six years, then left and came back in 2010 to drift in and out until 2016, like so many memories of loves lost. For its part, Adele’s smash-hit second album has been on the charts since its release in 2011 and has never missed a week in the top 200 – that’s 319 weeks in total, straight. We hope she’s celebrating by doing her favorite thing: listening to Beyoncé.
