Ahead of the premiere of Jordan Klepper’s new late night show next week, Comedy Central welcomed a group of reporters this morning to check out the Opposition set, ask Klepper some questions, and meet his team of “Citizen Journalists.†While The Opposition will take on a similar format to The Daily Show in terms of news segments, field pieces (some from the Citizen Journalists and others from Klepper himself), and interviews, the show is also pulling from the Colbert Report playbook by having Klepper and the Citizen Journalists act as a “conspiracy-driven†variety of right-wing characters inspired by Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos, and when it comes to Tim Baltz’s Opposition persona, far-right beta males. Klepper described his Opposition character as an extension of what he did on The Daily Show, which resulted in some of the best election coverage last year.
Check out some photos from the set below, including The Opposition’s so-called conspiracy “murder board†that will constantly change and evolve as well as Klepper and his onscreen team:
Right outside the studio, the show teases the “conspiracy-driven†angle with some recent newspaper headlines:
The Opposition with Jordan Klepper premieres next Monday, September 25th at 11:30pm. The show also revealed next week’s guest lineup, which will be Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire author Kurt Andersen (Monday), Supreme Court lawyer Neal Katyal (Tuesday), Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus (Wednesday), and Black Lives Matter activist Deray Mckesson (Thursday).
