Tina Fey’s ‘Mean Girls’ Musical Heads to Broadway Next Year

Tina Fey’s long in-the-works Mean Girls musical is officially heading to Broadway next year. Fey confirmed the news today in a new video, which reveals that the Mean Girls musical will have a five-week run of pre-Broadway shows at The National Theatre in Washington DC starting October 31st, followed by previews at the August Wilson Theatre on March 12th, then opening night on April 8th. Lorne Michaels is credited as a producer on the musical, with music by Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin) directing. Erika Henningsen, Taylor Louderman, Ashley Park, and Kate Rockwell play Cady Heron and the Plastics, respectively, and the cast also includes Barrett Wilbert Weed (Janis), Grey Henson (Damian), Kyle Selig (Aaron), Kerry Butler (Ms. Norbury), Cheech Manohar (Kevin), and Rick Younger (Principal Duvall). The musical will still follow the plot of the 2004 movie but be updated to the present time – or, as The New York Times puts it, “the Plastics have Snapchat and Instagram in their arsenal.â€

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, October 3rd.
