Vir Das and Ramy Youssef both have comedies in development at Hulu. According to Variety, Das has teamed up with The Goldbergs executive producer Doug Robinson to develop a single-cam comedy at the streaming network titled In Theory, in which Das would star as “self-destructive math genius turned Indian radio DJ Jazz who moves from Mumbai, India, to a small Mid-Western college town where he becomes obsessed with completing his late father’s unfinished work, a grand, complex ‘Theory of Happiness.’†Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Hulu has ordered a pilot presentation to an untitled show created by Youssef and produced by Jerrod Carmichael that “centers on Youssef’s distinct point-of-view as a contemporary Egyptian-American Muslim, caught between multiple worlds and what it means to be Arab, American, and Muslim at a time when each of those identity markers is going through a crisis of definition.â€
In addition to recently making his standup TV debut on The Late Show back in May, Youssef was also chosen as a New Face at Just For Laughs over the summer. Das most recently starred in his own Netflix standup special Abroad Undersanding, which premiered back in April.
