Despite getting a lot of recent support from folks like Sean Penn and Paul Schrader, A Star Is Born director Bradley Cooper has come up empty over and over this awards season. But PETA is here to change his fortunes. Today, the animal-rights organization honored Cooper with its 2019 Best Director Oscat (their animal-friendly Oscar) for choosing to put his own dog in Star instead of going through an agency. Other winners include Winston Duke, who was named Best Actor for saying M’Baku and his tribe, the Jabari, are vegetarians in Black Panther. (That movie also won the Cat’s Meow Award for using CGI panthers and rhinos.) And PETA’s Best Actress went to Natalie Portman for sporting a vegan-friendly wardrobe in Vox Lux. Congratulations to all the Oscat winners, and it looks like Cooper’s 17-page press schedule finally paid off!
