Well, we have our first look at the latest collaboration between director Tate Taylor and Octavia Spencer, and it is definitely not The Help. In Ma, Spencer stars as a woman with what we’ll call attachment issues. She gets involved with a group of teens who have no idea that the woman they just shoulder-tapped outside a liquor store is about to ruin their lives. Ma starts as the chill lady who lets kids party at her house, but it turns out she’s angling to get much more involved in their lives than just being their host. And now seems like a good time to review a fundamental lesson: Don’t accept an invitation to a stranger’s basement! Just get tipsy in the woods like everyone else in your semi-rural high school. Ma arrives in theaters on May 31.
