The Academy nominated itself for Best Drama, or at least Most, in the lead-up to this year’s Oscars, deciding with just weeks to spare to go hostless for the big night. So how did the 2019 Oscars kick off without, say, a Hugh Jackman there to ride a cardboard Batcycle? By immediately launching into Queen’s performance of “We Are the Champions†featuring Adam Lambert on vocals, allowing Lambert’s resting “Queen performing the Oscars†energy to fill the void. Based on the audience’s reaction, everyone absolutely loved it. We’re talking “Is this the first time Javier Bardem has ever heard ‘We Are the Champions’ in his life?â€â€“level love.
