Apple has ordered drama series Pachinko, based on the novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee. The New York Times bestselling novel is an epic historical work about four generations of a Korean family that moves to Japan. The huge cultural and political shifts in Korea and Japan in the 20th century are told through their experience. The series will be trilingual, telling its story in Korean, Japanese, and English. Soo Hugh will executive produce and serve as showrunner. Hugh previously served as co-showrunner on The Terror as well as working on The Killing and Under the Dome. The show will be produced by Media Res, the studio helmed by former HBO exec Michael Ellenberg, who will also serve as executive producer with Hugh and Lee.
