Nashville served up country-fried soap drama for six seasons on ABC, and later CMT, and it may soon come to Broadway. Per Deadline, Lionsgate is working with Broadway producer Scott Delman to develop a stage-musical version of the TV series, which will come with all-new music (sorry, “Telescope†stans). Hollywood studios have increasingly tried to adapt their properties into Broadway shows, but this would be Lionsgate’s first foray into that world. In a statement, Delman promised that the show will “deliver Broadway’s first score of true contemporary country music†— we guess this is leaving out Bright Stars’ bluegrass — which will come from “major Nashville and Broadway songwriters.†So, which country songwriters really want a Tony? If we just assume Taylor Swift’s gonna win an Oscar for Cats, here’s a way for her to move through an EGOT.
