Julia Louis-Dreyfus has a record 11 Emmys—eight for acting, three for producing. Add that to a pile of SAG Awards and one Golden Globe, and you’ve got an impressive haul. But Julia knows a peon such as you would feel unwelcome in a home with such accomplishments adorning the walls. “I don’t want to keep them all in one spot — that feels sort of show-off-y,†she told Porter. “So I have some out … but others are tucked away under a bed.†Despite wanting to hide some of her awards, Louis-Dreyfus hopes that her show Veep has made room for women to be more assertive in the political sphere. “Why is a powerful woman a complicated thing? Why is asserting ourselves so hard?†she asked.
The cast of Veep is taking its final-season victory lap. Every late-night host is wailing and gnashing their teeth at getting to interview cast members for the last time. Veep’s success was hard-won for Louis-Dreyfus, who came to table reads throughout her chemo treatments for breast cancer. Her next project is developing a remake of the Swedish film Force Majeure co-starring Will Ferrell. What isn’t on the horizon is a Seinfeld reboot. “I don’t want to sully it. It was pretty special, and it’s been a long time now,†she said. “You don’t want to fuck something like that up.â€
