The legacy of 1999 continues to burn bright. Joshua Jackson is set to join his Cruel Intentions co-star Reese Witherspoon in the Hulu series adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere, based on the novel by Celeste Ng. Jackson will play Bill Richardson, a lawyer in the town of Shaker Heights and husband to Witherspoon’s Elena Richardson. Bill and Elena have a daughter named Izzy, and their lives are thrown into upheaval after the arrival of a woman named Mia Warren (Kerry Washington, who is co-producing with Witherspoon) and her own young daughter, Pearl (Lexi Underwood). The story is said to explore “the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood,†which is a set of circumstances Witherspoon — a.k.a. Madeline Martha Mackenzie — knows a lot about. Jackson gave a slight nod to his history with Witherspoon on Twitter. Now bring on this simmering-under-the-surface domestic discord.
