Gretchen Carlson hadn’t seen one episode of The Loudest Voice, Showtime’s Roger Ailes drama, before its premiere Monday night at the Paris Theater. Naomi Watts stars as Carlson, the former Fox anchor who filed a sexual-harassment lawsuit against Ailes that led to his ouster. Because of a nondisclosure agreement, Carlson couldn’t help with the show, based on reporting by Gabriel Sherman when he worked at New York Magazine, and his book on Ailes, The Loudest Voice in the Room. “What I’ve heard through the grapevine is that she did a tremendous amount of research on me, she read my books, and she really wanted to do the role justice. All I can say is wow. I have this amazing, high-caliber actress who’s playing me. I’m honored,†Carlson told Vulture at the premiere. But when a famous actress is researching you for a showy TV drama, is there the temptation to research her? “Yes, now I’m actually going to start watching Game of Thrones,†Carlson laughed. “She’s doing the prequel, and I did not have time to watch the other series.†Mostly though, Carlson is eager to see how Watts plays her accent: “I’m going to play special attention to her American Minnesota accent since she’s an Aussie,†she said. Good luck!
