Please Enjoy Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, and Miriam Shor Belting ‘9 to 5’ in This Younger Clip

What do you know, sometimes we can have nice things. Ahead of Younger’s season-six premiere on June 12, Vulture is pleased to debut this incredible clip of the show’s publishing-goddess trio — Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, and Miriam Shor — singin’ Dolly Parton’s eternal bop “9 to 5.â€

We encourage you to click immediately, but we’ll give you some background intel anyway: In the Younger premiere, Liza and Kelsey hunt down Diana at her favorite jaunt, the claustrophobe-unfriendly Marie’s Crisis, to get her back on their side after a work tiff. Obviously, the sonic powers of Parton, Tomlin, and Fonda might just be the salve they need.

“It was such a great way to bring these characters back together,†Foster told Vulture in an interview. “It felt very organic, and I loved that all the lyrics they were singing worked to get Diana back on the team and ready to play. Our characters don’t sing, we’re not singers. We work in publishing. That’s why it felt right as opposed to, All of a sudden we break into a random song.â€

While the trio didn’t get too much practice time — “We wung it,†Foster said of their brief trailer warm-ups — the five-hour shoot was a series highlight for the ladies, even if they all needed a chiropractor by the end of it. “I had never actually been to Marie’s Crisis,†she added. “When I walked in a was like, Oh my gosh, this is so tiny. Did they make this place smaller? Does the wall move? The cameramen had to put the cameras on their shoulders.â€

No other songs were seriously considered, Foster added, given the near-perfect lyric-to-script parallels: “That movie and musical is about three women and how they come together.†Yes, we’re already demanding a sequel.
