Nearly a year after FX announced that Chris Rock would star in the fourth season of Fargo, FX has announced who else will be joining him in the next edition of the series, a.k.a. Dark Stories About the Midwest. The list includes Jack Huston “as Odis Weffâ€; Jason Schwartzman as “Josto Faddaâ€; Ben Whishaw as “Rabbi Milliganâ€; Jessie Buckley as “Oraetta Mayflowerâ€; Salvatore Esposito as “Gaetano Faddaâ€; Andrew Bird (guess he acts now!) as “Thurman Smutneyâ€; Jeremie Harris as “Leon Bittleâ€; Gaetano Bruno as “Constant Calamitaâ€; Anji White as “Dibrell Smutneyâ€; Francesco Acquaroli as “Ebal Violanteâ€; E’myri Crutchfield as “Ethelrida Pearl Smutneyâ€; and Amber Midthunder as “Swanee Capps.†The new season will air on FX in 2020. It goes into production in Chicago this fall, with creator Noah Hawley directing the first episode.
In its fourth season, the series jumps into 1950 “at the end of two great American migrations — that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the US at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York, Chicago — and African Americans who left the south in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities — you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream.†It’ll focus on two criminal syndicates in Kansas City, Missouri, one Italian and one African-American. In order to “cement their peace, the heads of both families have traded their youngest sons.†Rock is playing the head of one family, while FX hasn’t revealed any specifics about the other characters, though we assume Fargo will get Andrew Bird to sing a melancholy ditty or two at some point, it would be a pity not to.
