Welcome to Peak TV, Jeff Bridges! The venerable and beloved actor has signed on for the leading role in the FX series The Old Man, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry. It centers on a former intelligence agent named Chase who has been living off the grid for decades since ditching his post at the CIA. And his reasons for going on the lam probably have something to do with the assassin that tracks him down and tries to kill him after so many years of being a ghost. That’s when “the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past,†according to the logline. Besides the reflexive strangeness of looking at Jeff Bridges’s face and hearing people call him “Chase,†the series sounds promising because Jeff Bridges is always good. This will be the first time the actor has even appeared on TV since the 1980s, but his career did get started with a few small-screen roles in the early 1960s, including a couple of appearances on The Lloyd Bridges Show. (Lloyd of course being his dad.) Welcome back to TV, Jeff. We hear it’s changed a lot since 1958.
