Dame Julie Andrews, welcome to the streaming age. The legendary actress will play a role in Shonda Rhimes’s first Netflix show, Bridgerton, which qualifies as a reunion, since Rhimes wrote Andrews’s film The Princess Diaries 2. Set to arrive in 2020, the eight-episode series is based off of Julia Quinn’s best-selling book series of the the same name, which follows a powerful, tight-knit family in the lavish world of Regency London high society. Julie Andrews will voice an unseen gossip reporter, surely the most iconic since Kristen Bell played the titular role in Gossip Girl. She’ll feature alongside Rege-Jean Page (For the People) as Duke Simon Bassett, the hottest commodity around, and Phoebe Dynevor (Younger) as Daphne Bridgerton (of the Bridgerton Bridgertons), a young debutante.
Other cast members include Golda Rosheuvel (Lady MacBeth), Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch), Luke Newton (The Cut), Claudia Jessie (Doctor Who), Nicola Coughlan (Harlots), Ruby Barker (Doctors), Sabrina Bartlett (Victoria), Ruth Gemmell (Penny Dreadful), Adjoa Andoh (Thunderbirds), and Polly Walker (Pennyworth). Hot rich people being hot and rich? Yes, please.
