The comedian and writer who brought us instant-classic Saturday Night Live oddities such as “Wells for Boys†and “Papyrus†has some more weird goodness in store next month, and today there’s a sneak peek at his latest project to get you very excited. Julio Torres, who co-created and stars in HBO’s new bilingual comedy Los Espookys, also has a comedy special at the network titled after his live show, My Favorite Shapes, in which he spotlights an impressive lineup of wonderful shapes including “a plexiglass square, a triangle, an oval that wishes he were a circle, a self-conscious cactus, and a Ferrero Rocher chocolate that Julio is mad at because she left her little skirt at home.†You’re sold already, right?
Lorne Michaels and Los Espookys co-creator Fred Armisen serve as executive producers on My Favorite Shapes, which was directed by SNL alum (and Torres’s “Wells for Boys†and “Papyrus†collaborator) Dave McCary. In addition to highlighting many shapes, Torres also explores more abstract concepts like “the inner turmoil of the exclusionary curtain that separates first class passengers from economy class on a plane.†Prepare for shape overload when Torres’s special hits HBO on Saturday, August 10 at 10:30 p.m.
