More news from the Disney film factory: Taika Waititi is set to write and direct the next Thor film. Waititi previously directed (and made a cameo in) 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Since then, he’s just been, whew, crazy busy with What We Do in the Shadows, Jojo Rabbit, and reprising his role as Korg in Avengers: Endgame. But one of his projects, a Warner Bros. adaptation of the Japanese manga Akira, is getting pushed indefinitely in order to make Thor 4. Waititi had begun a worldwide search for Japanese actors, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, script delays caused a push on the timeline. Akira and Th4r’s production schedules were just too close to make it work and Disney knows how to get what it wants. I mean, it got Beyoncé.
