Comic-Con is flooding our newsfeeds with more superhero news than we can handle, but it turns out people are making other kinds of content, too (gasp!). Deadline reports that Joe and Anthony Russo FaceTimed Tom Holland into their panel on Friday, and they discussed their next project with the actor: a film adaptation of Nico Walker’s 2018 novel, Cherry. The Russos confirmed during the panel that the film would be rated R, meaning we should start preparing ourselves emotionally to see our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man do some things. The story, based on the life of the author, follows an Army medic who returns from war with PTSD, develops an opioid addiction, and turns to robbing banks. “It’s a story about drug addiction and the opioid crisis,†Joe Russo told the audience. “It’s touched us both, it’s a deeply personal movie for us. The gent who wrote the book went through the same growth arc in the same part of the city we grew up in — but different experiences.†Filming is set to begin in October.
