The Vita and Virginia Trailer Is a Literary Lesbian Romance for Your Summer

Vita Sackville-West was a poet, novelist, garden designer, and wife to a British diplomat. She also loved women and carried on multiple steamy affairs throughout her lifetime. One such affair was with Virginia Woolf, and that is the focus of Vita and Virginia, a new movie from director and co-writer Chanya Button. Gemma Arterton stars as Sackville-West, who is so taken by Woolf’s work (played by Elizabeth Debicki) that she insists on making her acquaintance, and from there a tense romance unfolds. It’s England in the 1920s, and the rich Sackville-West is afforded a more reckless life than Woolf, but will their desire for one another win out in the end? Read their actual love letters now or just wait for the movie to find out. Vita and Virginia arrives in theaters on August 23.
