Watch the First Steven Universe Movie Trailer and Hear a New Song From Estelle

It was a real love-in for Steven Universe at San Diego Comic-Con, where the Cartoon Network’s most charming and queer little show was set up at one of the event’s biggest venues. Thousands of fans were on hand to hear creator Rebecca Sugar talk about the animated series with some of her voice talent — including Deedee Magno Hall (Pearl), Michaela Dietz (Amethyst), Estelle (Garnet), and Shelby Rabara (Peridot), who also moderated the panel — and to get a first glimpse at the upcoming Steven Universe movie. The audience normally gets about 11 minutes with their beloved Universe favorites each episode, but the feature-length musical adventure premieres on Cartoon Network on September 2 at 6:00 p.m. And today it got its first trailer.

Sugar and company were reluctant to share any details beyond what’s available in that new teaser, citing no spoilers repeatedly, but the show’s creator and Estelle did perform a cut called “True Kinda Love†from the musical’s soundtrack. And while it’s not the live performance featuring Sugar that SDCC audiences were treated to, the whole wide world can now sing along with them, since it’s a single available for your streaming pleasure. Other artists who contributed to the movie include Chance the Rapper, Aimee Mann, Macie Stewart, Jeff Liu, and more. Then, if you still can’t get enough of Steven after the movie comes out, there will be an hour-long making-of documentary available with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage mapping its creation. One might say you’ve got a whole universe of Steven coming your way.
