Despite the best efforts of fans of the science-fiction show, The OA will not return to Netflix, and will not be getting a movie, according to Variety. A source close to the show told Variety that The OA’s creators, Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, had talked about a movie conclusion to the series, but the two-hour format would not have been sufficient to tie up the show’s loose ends. Following news of Netflix’s cancellation of The OA, fans organized flash mobs and hunger strikes as part of a full movement to save the show. But Netflix has no plans to reverse their decision, according to Variety. What’s more, since Netflix produced the show, another network or streaming service cannot acquire the rights to it and “rescue†the show. It appears, for now, that The OA has ascended to a higher plane of existence.
