Adrian Lyne is set to direct his first movie since 2002’s Unfaithful. According to Deadline, Lyne will direct Deep Water starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, Deep Water centers a couple, Vic and Melinda Van Allen, in a loveless marriage. The couple (Affleck and de Armas) let each other take lovers on the side, but when one of Melinda’s former paramours is found dead, Vic gets embroiled in the investigation. It’s an erotic thriller, a genre that Lyne knows well. As the director of such films as 9 1/2 Weeks, Indecent Proposal, and Fatal Attraction, Lyne thrives where horniness and mistrust intersect. The director has been shopping the adaptation since 2013, but people are finally into prestige cucking enough to get this thing off the ground. New Regency is funding, and — if all goes well — production will begin in the fall.
