Much like an RV meth lab hurtling at breakneck speed through the New Mexico desert, the Breaking Bad movie teaser crashed unexpectedly into our lives this evening following nearly a year of secrecy from Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. The teaser reveals the title of the highly anticipated film, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, as well as the release date, October 11. Written and directed by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, the movie sequel to AMC’s smash hit will star Aaron Paul in his Emmy-winning role as Jesse Pinkman. The thriller follows Jesse in the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity at a Nazi compound, as he comes to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future.
The teaser comes just days after Bob Odenkirk revealed the movie was “done†in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Details of the film were then quietly leaked today after Netflix posted a short placeholder description for the film on its website reading, “Fugitive Jesse Pinkman runs from his captors, the law, and his past.†It is unclear whether Bryan Cranston, star of the original TV series, will be reprising his role as Walter White in the movie. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie is produced by Mark Johnson, Melissa Bernstein, Charles Newirth, Diane Mercer, and Aaron Paul, in association with Sony Pictures Television.
