The upcoming Little Women movie, more than an adaptation of a beloved young adult novel by Louisa May Alcott, is a cinematic event. It’s a crossover of epic proportions with Ladybird (Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, and director Greta Gerwig), Sharp Objects (unfortunately Emmy nomination–less Eliza Scanlen), Midsommar (Florence Pugh), Big Little Lies (Laura Dern, Meryl Streep), and … Harry Potter (Emma Watson) coming together to give us something to get us through the winter. In the trailer, Jo (Ronan) is determined to fulfill her wildest dreams and for her sisters to fulfill theirs. Pesky things like love and money won’t get in her way. It only took Louisa May Alcott ten weeks to write Little Women. It will take us ten years to get over the Little Women trailer. When our eyes close at night, Saoirse Ronan runs past in several overcoats and a loose braid. Kites fly by. Timothée Chalamet proposes. We turn him down and wake up feeling powerful.
