Out of the few couples that excitedly walked away from this season’s Bachelor in Paradise with an engagement, Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty, the franchise’s first same-sex couple, were among them. Burnett, who found fame on Colton Underwood’s Bachelor season as an unabashedly unfiltered contestant, and Haggerty, an ordained minister who walked onto Paradise midway through as Burnett’s real-world girlfriend (a move that was unprecedented for the franchise given her outsider status), had been dating for months in Los Angeles prior to becoming engaged. “I know that this has been really hard. I’ve put you through struggles and you were always there for me regardless of how much I didn’t deserve it at the time,†Burnett lovingly told her before getting down on one knee. “I never knew that someone could be that patient. There were a lot of things that came between us, mostly myself and my own struggles. Like you said, I came here to find myself. But I found myself in you.â€
At the show’s reunion later in the episode, the couple confirmed that they’re still happily engaged — and Haggerty, in turn, proposed to Burnett. “I know that last day in Paradise was the best day of my life,†she explained, “and I wouldn’t want to do this life with anyone but you.â€
The two other couples who ended their Paradise stints with engagements were Hannah Godwin and Dylan Barbour, and Katie Morton and Chris Bukowski, respectively. Only one of those couples seem to be doing well.
