The future of James Bond is always changing, but at least one former 007 would like that future to be a little more female. According to Pierce Brosnan, the idea of a female Bond is downright “exhilarating.†Like an-invisible-car-hurtling-toward-an-ice-palace level of exhilarating. “Yes!’ Brosnan told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about the potential hiring of a woman for the role. “I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years. Get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating. It would be exciting.â€
However, the actor, who played the British secret agent in 1995’s GoldenEye, 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies, 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, and 2002’s Die Another Day, doubts a lady 007 will grace the silver screen as long as the Bond franchise is executive-produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. “I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis,†said Brosnan. “I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.â€
In 2018, Barbara Broccoli told the Guardian, “Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.†So, if the rumor about actress Lashana Lynch potentially picking up the 007 mantle from Daniel Craig in No Time to Die is true, consider her first mission extremely accomplished.
