Just hours after closing the casket on its Game of Thrones prequel that would have starred Naomi Watts, the network announced another Thrones-based show. House of the Dragon will be a Targaryen-centric spin-off, and it’s been ordered to series. News of a pilot for the show first surfaced last month, and it will reportedly be set 300 years before the events of Thrones as we know them from the show. It will chronicle “the beginning of the end†of House Targaryen, which means we might be in for some Mad King drama, and should definitely be in for a lot more dragons, since the Targaryens used to have a lot of those! George R.R. Martin will write the script with Ryan Condal, which will be based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood. “Battle of the Bastards†director Miguel Sapochnik will helm the pilot as well as more of Dragon’s ten-episode order, and he will also serve as co-showrunner with Condal. The games revolving around thrones rage on.
