With the U.S. release of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on September 3, blockbuster movies may just be a thing again. Cinema’s long-awaited return probably won’t be happy-go-lucky, “let’s all go to the lobby,†however. Movie theaters across the country and the world have begun to reopen with new COVID-19 safety procedures geared toward immersing you in the movie onscreen, not getting you caught up in a plague horror of your own. Theater chains like AMC, Cinemark, Marcus Theatres, and Regal Cinemas have released their protocols, with some already operating and screening Bill & Ted Face the Music and others still waiting to open their doors. While theaters in New York City and Los Angeles, the country’s biggest film markets, will remain indefinitely closed, at least 80 percent of American theaters will eventually open for Nolan’s movie, including those in cities like Denver, Atlanta, and Austin. What does this mean for you? Here’s a rundown of the U.S. states that will be showing Tenet by September 3, plus a brief reminder of the international cities also reopening, just to make New York jealous.
Note: The guidelines governing new movie-theater etiquette may vary from state to state (some, like Florida, are still waiting for reopening instructions), so we advise you double-check before heading to your local Cineplex. Still wondering if it’s actually safe to go to a movie theater at all? Check out our interview with Dr. Robert Lahita on the topic here.
