An in-person Emmys ceremony? With stars and creatives receiving their awards from someone not in a hazmat suit? What a concept! Unlike last year’s ceremony, this year’s Emmys are bringing all our television favorites together to celebrate the TV that kept us sane in 2020.
From Ted Lasso’s nomination domination to the limited series showdown between The Queen’s Gambit and Mare of Easttown, it was certainly an interesting night: Mare of Easttown’s Julianne Nicholson won supporting actress over Kathryn Hahn’s much-predicted win for her portrayal of Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. Predictably, Ted Lasso had a big night in its respective categories, with Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham and totally real human man Brett Goldstein each nabbing an award before the show won Outstanding Comedy Series. Hacks also landed three awards: Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing, and Outstanding Comedy Actress for Jean Smart.
Meanwhile, The Crown completely swept the drama category, making it a bittersweet send-off before the series’ next cast makes its season four debut (aka hello, Elizabeth Debicki!). And Michaela Coel took home a writing award for I May Destroy You while delivering one of the best speeches of the night. What a night, folks. Here are all of your 2021 Primetime Emmy winners.
