Good news: Struggling actors Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez have job security at Hulu for another year. Phew! Only Murders in the Building aired its season-three finale October 3 and was officially renewed for a fourth season the same day. The show is a giant hit for Hulu — the third season’s premiere was the highest-rated Hulu original episode of 2023, and the show is Hulu’s most-watched original comedy ever. Who’s a suspect?
Only Murders has always had a wealth of guest stars, but this season has a mother lode. Meryl Streep will return to her role as Loretta Durkin, which probably won’t help quash those Short-Streep dating rumors. Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Jane Lynch are also returning. And this season, they’ll be joined by Molly Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Richard Kind, and Eugene Levy. Wow, that’s a lot of names — it’s like Barbie and Oppenheimer had a baby over here.
What’s the scheme?
The trailer debuted on August 13, and with it came this news: They’re May December–ing. Gasp! By that, of course, we mean the plot of the season will surround the main trio’s podcast being turned into a movie, and actors will be studying our leads. Levy, Longoria, and Galifianakis are playing versions of themselves, who will then be playing Martin, Gomez, and Short, respectively. But then (double gasp!), Lynch’s character, Sazz, is killed, and it looks like the killer was aiming for Martin. Keep up! This show covers a lot of ground.
When does the season come out?
