Our Expert Take

Intro APR Offer

Get a 0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months from the date of account opening, then a variable rate of 17.49% to 27.49% applies.

Why We Like It

Get The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express (Terms apply, see rates & fees) for the intro APR offer and keep it for the earn rate of 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar on everyday business purchases up to the first $50,000 spent per year, then 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. Those Membership Rewards® points can save you a ton on travel when used to book flights through Amex Travel or by transferring them to a number of airline and hotel loyalty program partners.

What We Don’t Like

The card’s intro APR offer is short compared to what you can find on other cards and doesn’t include balance transfers. And while you can earn a great rewards rate on a good chunk of spending every year, the rewards cap can be a nuisance for businesses that spend more than $50,000 annually.

Who It’s Best For

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is a good choice for business owners who don’t need a long intro APR period and generally don’t spend more than $50,000 annually in operating expenses.

Pros & Cons
  • Wide variety of airline transfer partners
  • No annual fee
  • High rewards rate on the first $50,000 in annual spending
  • There is a foreign transaction fee
  • 2 points per dollar rewards rate falls to 1 point per dollar after $50,000 in annual spending
Card Details
  • Earn 15,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on the Card within your first 3 months of Card Membership.
  • 0.0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months from the date of account opening, then a variable rate, 17.49% – 27.49%, based on your creditworthiness and other factors at account opening. APR will not exceed 29.99%
  • Earn 2X points on everyday business purchases such as office supplies or client dinners. 2X applies to the first $50,000 in purchases per year, 1 point per dollar thereafter. Terms and limitations apply.
  • You’ve got the power to spend beyond your credit limit* with Expanded Buying Power. *The amount you can spend above your credit limit is flexible, so it adapts with your use of the Card, your payment history, credit record, financial resources known to us, and other factors. Just remember, the amount you can spend with Expanded Buying Power is not unlimited.

Intro APR Offer

Get a 0% introductory APR on purchases for 12 months, then a standard APR of 17.49% to 25.49% variable applies for purchases and balance transfers. A balance transfer fee of either $5 or 5% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater, applies.

Why We Like It

In addition to the intro purchase APR, the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card offers excellent rewards on everyday business expenses like internet, cable and phone services, office supply store purchases, gas and dining.

In addition to receiving an impressive welcome bonus for no annual fee, cardholders will be automatically reviewed for a credit line increase, which can help to increase their purchasing power as their business grows.

Don’t overlook the extras, either. The Ink Business Cash Card comes with primary auto rental coverage when renting for business purposes, plus purchase protection and extended warranty protection.

What We Don’t Like

The cap on the bonus rewards categories may hold back bigger spenders. Like most others on our list, the Ink Business Cash only offers an intro APR on purchases—balance transfers are excluded.

Who It’s Best For

The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card offers business owners the one-two punch of an intro APR on purchases, a strong welcome bonus, plus plenty of ways to maximize your cash back.

Our Expert Take

Intro APR Offer

Get a 0% intro APR on purchases for the first 12 billing cycles followed by a variable APR of 17.99% to 26.99%.

Why We Like It

The U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card offers an excellent mix of interest savings, top-tier rewards and annual benefits, making it a solid choice even without the intro APR on purchases.

The card also offers a generous welcome bonus, which is especially notable for a card with no annual fee.

Beyond the intro APR, you can earn cash back at a respectable rate on gas, office supply stores, cellphone service providers and restaurant spending, plus an annual $100 credit toward eligible recurring software subscriptions.

What We Don’t Like

This card’s bonus categories are likely best for smaller, locally-focused businesses where driving, dining and office supplies make up a big portion of their budget. But you’ll need to look elsewhere if you’re a national or online-only company hoping to earn bonus rewards for things like shipping or online advertising.

Who It’s Best For

This card is best suited for business owners who need an intro APR period and whose spending aligns with the card’s bonus categories.

Pros & Cons
  • No annual fee
  • Earn 3% cash back on eligible purchases at gas stations, EV charging stations (on transactions of $200 or less excluding discount stores, supercenters and wholesale clubs), office supply stores, cellphone service providers and restaurants.
  • Low introductory APR on purchases

Intro APR Offer

Get a 0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months from the date of account opening, then a 17.49% to 27.49% variable APR applies.

Why We Like It

The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card (Terms apply, see rates & fees) is nearly identical to The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express except instead of earning Membership Rewards® points, the Blue Business Cash earns cash-back. If you prefer to avoid the fuss of thinking about how to maximize your redemption values, it’s hard to pass up the Blue Business Cash.

The card also offers authorized user cards for no additional fee, purchase protections¹ and extended warranty coverage¹.

What We Don’t Like

The biggest drawback with the Blue Business Cash is its $50,000 annual spending cap on the 2% rewards rate. After that threshold you’ll earn just 1% on your spending, so bigger spenders should consider other options.

Who It’s Best For

Owning The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card can benefit those who spend less than $50,000 annually and want to earn cash back.

Table of Contents

What Is a 0% APR Business Credit Card?

An intro period of 0% APR means that for a set period of time after opening the new card, you will not accrue interest. Zero-interest offers can apply to new purchases, balance transfers or both. When the period ends, a standard APR usually applies. Introductory annual percentage rate offers must be at least six months but can extend longer. There are zero-interest offers on personal cards and business cards, with the principal difference being that business cards are used for business expenses.

Be aware that late payments may nullify your 0% APR, so make sure to stay on top of your payments.

How Does APR Work on Business Credit Cards?

When you sign up for a 0% APR business credit card, for a set period of time you’ll receive a zero interest rate on purchases, balance transfers or both. So long as you’re making payments on time, the rate will continue for the term. Since 0% rate periods can vary from card to card, be sure to choose accordingly if a long 0% APR is important to you.

Once the promotional period ends, you’ll be charged interest at an annual percentage rate, or APR, on the remaining balance. Before applying for a 0% APR card, make sure you read the fine print. Some cards offer deferred interest for a set time period, but if you fail to pay off the balance within the allotted period, you will owe interest from the date of your purchase.

Pros and Cons of 0% APR Business Credit Cards

Pros Cons
You’re not charged interest during your zero-interest period on the card
The 0% APR might apply to only purchases, balance transfers or both
0% purchase APRs are useful to pay off large purchases over time
If you miss a payment, you could forfeit your 0% APR and pay a higher rate
0% balance transfer APRs can be helpful for consolidating debt
Your regular APR will apply to any remaining balance after the introductory period
You’ll usually have to pay a balance transfer fee for balance transfers

How To Pick a 0% APR Business Credit Card

Finding the best 0% APR business credit card for your needs can be overwhelming. Before applying, carefully consider your options. Here are some tips to help you decide:

  • Evaluate the length of time needed. Ensure that the offer you’re considering is long enough for you to pay off any balance before the promotional period ends.
  • Choose your perks. What perks are best for you and your business? Do you need employee cards? Travel rewards? Travel insurance?
  • Consider your business expenses. Do you spend heavily on office supplies? Do you often fill up at the gas tank? Which card will earn you the most rewards based on your spending habits?
  • Look at the ongoing variable APR. When your card’s introductory APR eventually ends, what’s the standard APR for this card? While we never recommend you carry a balance, looking for a lower APR is always wise.
Pro Tip
If you get a card with an introductory APR period, make sure you have a plan to pay off your debt before the intro period ends. Since most credit cards have high interest rates, they generally are not the best option to borrow money for your business.

How To Qualify for a 0% APR Business Credit Card

There are a few things to know before you get a business credit card, including that most business types are eligible to apply for cards, including sole proprietors, LLCs, small and large businesses and more.

To qualify:

  1. Check your personal credit. Approval for a small business credit card can be impacted by your personal credit, especially if your business is new.
  2. Choose a card that aligns with your likely creditworthiness. Comparing card features, annual fees, rewards rates and benefits can help you pick the best card for your needs.
  3. Apply for your preferred card. You may need to gather information for your application, including details on expected business revenue, liabilities and more.

How To Calculate APR for Business Credit Cards

Your APR will be available in your credit card’s Schumer Box regardless of whether you have a personal or business credit card. Your APR will determine how much you pay in interest if you carry a balance on your card from one month to the next. If you know what your credit card’s purchase APR is and how much of a balance you might need to carry, you can use our credit card interest calculator to determine how much you’ll be paying in interest charges.

How To Lower Business Credit Card Interest Rates

If you want to lower the interest rate on your business credit card, you have a few options.

  • Apply for a new business credit card with a lower interest rate. You won’t know exactly what your interest rate will be until you’re approved for a new card, but you can look for cards that offer a range of interest rates lower than what you currently have.
  • Apply for a business credit card with an introductory rate. A business credit card with an introductory rate may be your best chance to get a lower interest rate. But keep in mind that you’ll be restricted by your new card’s credit limit. It’s also generally difficult to be approved for a card with an introductory rate without a good to excellent credit score (670 and up according to the FICO scoring model).
  • Call your bank and ask. If you call your bank and explain that you’d like a lower interest rate, they may be willing to work with you, especially if you have a good relationship with the bank.

If you’re running a business and you need access to capital without interest accruing for a time, a 0% APR option is a solid choice. Also, if you’re running balances on your other cards and freeing yourself from those interest charges would make an impact on your monthly expenses, then getting a 0% APR card is worth it.

Not all businesses will need a zero interest credit card, but those that don’t pay their bill in full regularly can benefit from saving interest charges during an introductory 0% APR period.

I think it’s worth it if you have a big business related purchase that you want to make and that you need to pay over time. This gives you the ability to make the investment without worrying about interest. I recommend this as an option as long as you have a plan to pay off the balance before the promotional period ends.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What’s the difference between 0% APR and low interest?

A period of 0% APR is not the same as low interest. A 0% introductory APR is followed by a card’s standard APR, meaning interest is accrued on any remaining balance at the end of the intro APR period. Low interest usually refers to a card with a standard APR that is lower than most competitors. Most bank rewards credit cards do not offer low interest rates. But, you may be able to find a rewards credit card from a credit union with a low APR.

What are the credit requirements for a 0% APR card?

Most 0% APR cards require good to excellent credit. Note that while most business cards check your personal credit to determine your eligibility, using a business credit card responsibly can begin building a business credit history. Finding a card that reports to business credit bureaus is important. Those include Dun & Bradstreet, Experian Business Credit and Equifax Small Business. Building your business credit can help improve your access to small business loans and other financing in the future.

How can you make the most of your 0% APR business credit card?

The easiest way is to set up a plan to both use and pay off the card. If you’re doing a balance transfer, set a plan to pay off the total balance before the end of the 0% APR term. If you’re using this card to pay for purchases, make sure to only spend what you can afford to pay off before that 0% APR runs out.
