The Navyist Rewards Credit Card* can only be used to charge purchases across the Gap Inc. family of brands: Gap, Old Navy, Athleta, Banana Republic, Gap Factory and Banana Republic Factory. It has no annual fee and earns 5 points per dollar spent on purchases at Gap Inc. brands.

Navyist Rewards cardholders also qualify for free, fast shipping on online orders of $50 or more and receive access to members-only offers. Though the Mastercard and World Mastercard relatives of the Navyist Rewards store card may offer additional perks, the Navyist Rewards store card doesn’t offer much beyond its rewards program, shipping-related perks and its high 34.24% variable APR on purchases.

The Navyist Rewards Credit Card* also automatically enrolls cardholders in the Gap Inc. Rewards program at the Enthusiast level, which unlocks $0 fraud liability, a birthday gift, the ability to donate rewards to charities and early access to special events and select sales.

The Navyist Rewards card is best for those who shop extensively at the Gap Inc. family of brands, such as Gap, Old Navy, Athleta and Banana Republic. That’s because the rewards you earn are only redeemable at these stores. If you don’t do most of your clothes shopping with these brands, you’ll get more value from the other top credit cards on the market.

Earning Rewards

The Navyist Rewards Credit Card* earns 5 points per dollar spent on purchases at Gap Inc. brands. There’s no limit to the number of points you can earn, but all points expire when there’s been no account activity for 12 consecutive months. Points aren’t immediately rewarded but added to a rewards balance 14 days after a purchase is made.

The Navyist Rewards Credit Card* includes a welcome bonus: Earn 30% off the first purchase made using the card.

Redeeming Rewards

Rewards may be redeemed for merchandise at a Gap Inc. brand store in person or online. You cannot redeem rewards for subscription services or in the Gap Inc. clearance center. Rewards cannot be used to pay down the balance of your Navyist Rewards Credit Card* and cannot be used to purchase gift cards or pay sales tax, shipping charges or gift wrapping fees. Redemptions are limited to a maximum of $500 per transaction.

Navyist Rewards Credit Card* vs. Navyist Rewards Mastercard®*

The Navyist Rewards Mastercard®* is the near-identical network version of the Navyist Rewards Credit Card*. Unlike the store-only version, the Navyist Rewards Mastercard®* can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. The card earns an additional point for every dollar spent on the card outside of the Gap Inc. family of brands.

The Navyist Rewards Mastercard®* features the same high 34.24% variable APR as the Navyist Rewards store card does. Except for those Navyist cardholders set on squeezing every dollar out of their purchases, neither card appears particularly noteworthy.

Navyist Rewards Credit Card* vs. Prime Visa

On our list of the best store cards is the Prime Visa, which earns 5% back on purchases at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and on Chase Travel℠ purchases with an eligible Prime membership, unlimited 2% back at gas stations, restaurants and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare), and unlimited 1% back on other purchases. As a Visa Signature network card, the Prime Visa card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.

The Prime Visa also offers several extra benefits, including an auto rental collision damage waiver (secondary coverage), extended warranty and purchase protections, lost and delayed baggage protection, travel accident insurance and more. Though the card has no foreign transaction fees and no annual fee, a Prime membership is required.

Navyist Rewards Credit Card* vs. Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card

For those who don’t want to track categories anywhere, the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card sets a standard for flat-rate cash rewards. The card earns 2% cash rewards on purchases and has no annual fee.

Unlike most co-branded store cards, the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card’s rewards may be redeemed for cash, providing ultimate flexibility in how you spend them. The card surpasses its rewards and offers a 0% intro APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and qualifying balance transfers, then a 19.24%, 24.24%, or 29.24% variable APR applies. Balance transfers made within 120 days qualify for the intro rate and fee of 3% (min. $5) then a fee of up to 5% (min. $5) applies. It also has a welcome bonus: Earn a $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $500 in purchases in the first 3 months.

Unless you plan to have an entire wardrobe of Old Navy or other Gap-branded clothes, you should pass on this card. If you find the brand-affiliated rewards valuable, it could be the right option—especially if paired with a card earning stronger all-around rewards. Otherwise, pick a better option from our list of the best rewards cards.
