Difference Between a Cashback Credit Card and a Reward Credit Card?
The basic difference between cashback credit card and reward points credit card is as follows:
What Credit Score Is Required For A Cash Back Credit Card?
Companies take the credit rating very seriously before allotting a credit card to an applicant. In order to get a credit card one must have a minimum credit score of 680 in some companies or 700 in others. People who do not have this credit score are not eligible to get a cash back credit card.
Is Cashback Actual Money?
Cashback is actually money, which technically should be credited to the credit card account at the end of the billing cycle automatically, but we may find a few variants in this category depending on the company. Generally speaking, cashback is actual money that can be used anywhere, to pay dues, or make purchases. There are exceptions where the use of cashback is restricted by a few companies, but that will only hamper the popularity of such cards.
Benefits Of Getting a Cashback Credit Card
Cashback credit cards are better than the reward point credit card as while redeeming the value of the cashback remains the same homogeneously, unlike reward points, as the value of the reward point changes and depends on the usage. Following are the benefits of using a cashback credit card.
- Homogeneity in getting rewarded for using the credit card.
- Using a cashback credit card is easier than other credit cards.
- Users can improve their credit score by using a cashback credit card.
- One gets discounts in partner restaurants.
- There is a surcharge waiver of one percent on the purchase of petrol.
- Various offers in partner companies.
Methodology
We considered various cashback credit cards offered by various companies on the basis of the following criteria:
- Value for money: This was the most important factor that has been taken into consideration. The cards that provide maximum benefits made it to our list.
- Cash back: We have considered the cards which were at least giving a cashback of 5% in a particular domain at least.
- Availability for all income groups: We have taken the cards which are available to all the income groups and not to a selective few. There are credit cards which are only available by invite and normally no one can apply for those, as their income criteria is very high and people coming in a high income bracket can only apply for them. The credit cards reviewed by us are easily available to all.
- Additional benefits: We have given special consideration to credit cards providing additional benefits and half to the credit cards in which additional benefits are of some actual significance and not just in name. For example, if a card offers a fee waiver to a user who will spend INR 3 lakh in one year, it is unlikely all cardholders may want to spend that much in one year. This makes the feature redundant for certain cardholders.
